Zadar in One Day: The Perfect Itinerary

July 20265 min read
Roman Forum in Zadar

Zadar rewards people who plan their day around the light — the Sea Organ at sunrise, the Old Town at midday, the Riva at sunset. If you've only got 24 hours, here's the route that covers all of it without doubling back on yourself.

7:30 — Sea Organ & Greeting to the Sun

Start on the waterfront before the crowds. The Sea Organ hums as waves push air through pipes under the stone steps, and a few metres away the Greeting to the Sun lights up in patterns powered by the same energy. Both are free, both are best early.

9:00 — Roman Forum & Archaeological Museum

Walk into the Old Town toward the Roman Forum, Zadar's second-century square, then step into the Archaeological Museum Zadar right beside it — 30% off with the City Card. It's the fastest way to understand what you're standing on.

11:00 — St. Donat Church & the bell tower

The circular 9th-century church is a two-minute walk away and also 30% off. If you've got the legs for it, climb St. Anastasia's bell tower next door for a rooftop view over the peninsula.

13:00 — Lunch on the water

Head to the harbour for lunch with a view. Pizza & Bar Porat and Restaurant Giardin both sit right on Obala Kneza Branimira, each 10% off with the card — easy, fast, and you'll want the table by the water anyway.

14:30 — See the rest of the city by tour

Rather than walking every street, take the Cabrio Bus Tour or the E-Limo Tuk Tuk (both 20% off) — an easy way to cover Zadar's wider Old Town and waterfront in under an hour before the afternoon heat sets in.

19:00 — Sunset on the Riva

Come back to the waterfront for sunset — it's one of the reasons Hitchcock once called it the best in the world. Grab a coffee or a drink at Caffe Bar Ponte, right on the promenade, 10% off.

20:30 — Dinner

Finish at Restaurant Botanist for seasonal Croatian plates and local wine (25% off), or if you want a table directly on the water, Restaurant 2Ribara (15% off) a few streets over.

That's a full day — two museums, a guided tour, lunch, coffee and dinner — covered by one card that costs from €9. Everything above is within a 15-minute walk of the Old Town, so you're never backtracking.
